Gather materials, refine resources, and find what you can make.

Gathering

Fishing

Pull up a crate, angler. Fishing turns a quiet stretch of water into supper, cooking ingredients, and the occasional aquatic curiosity. Most catches feed naturally into Cooking, where a humble fish can become a meal that lasts far longer than ordinary trail rations.

Foraging

Never pass a berry bush with an empty pocket—or a full pocket, for that matter. Roots, greens, grubs, and whatever else the land is willing to spare can become supper, bait, or something useful to the alchemist. A sensible halfling gathers first and asks what is edible on the walk home.

Herbalism

The plants are always speaking; most folk simply trample too loudly to hear them. Gather their leaves, blossoms, and magical fronds gently, and they will lend their gifts to Alchemy and Disenchanting. Also, breathe deeply—the moss says you have been carrying entirely too much tension.

Lumberjacking

Yes, the trees are tall. That only makes it more impressive when a dwarf brings one down, does it not? Harvest lumber and resin for the woodworker, who will turn honest timber into boards for Carpentry and Fletching—and kindly keep your remarks about reach to yourself.

Mining

Sunlight? Overrated. Down here the walls hold ore for the smelters, stone for the cutters, and gems for that impatient gnome who keeps asking whether I have found anything shiny yet. Give me a sturdy pick, a deep vein, and another month before anyone mentions the surface.

Refining

Smelting

Ore goes in. Bars come out. Scrap goes in too, if scrap good; different metals make alloys for smiths, jewelers, and enchanters. Ogre watching furnace, not running tour—take bars and leave Ogre quiet.

Stone Cutting

Stone does not surrender its shape to haste; it reveals it to a worthy hand. I cut rough rock into proper material for those capable of appreciating it, including the mason—though he remains convinced stacking my work makes him the artist. Such confidence is common among dwarves who meet the stone only after I have civilized it.

Tanning

All right, since you are standing there: clean the pelt, work it properly, and turn it into canvas the leatherworker can actually use. There are no shortcuts, no matter what the young folk claim, and if you ruin a good hide I will know. Now quit hovering; an old man has work to do.

Crafting

Alchemy

Every herb contains a possibility: a useful tonic, a valuable reagent, or a lesson someone survives only once. Bring me plants and powders and I will brew temporary boons, clever utilities, and materials the other crafters keep begging for. Do not touch the green flask; I am still measuring how far the smoke travels.

Blacksmithing

Nein, that is not a hammer swing; that is an apology delivered to hot metal. Bring properly smelted bars, sound leather straps, and the tailored components the design calls for, and we will make weapons, armor, and fittings worthy of use. The ogre at the furnace says the bars are fine—so at least one of you is learning.

Carpentry

I have measured the frame twice, cleared the bench, and skipped second breakfast waiting for the woodworker to deliver my boards. Carpentry joins prepared wood with fittings and other supplied components to make finished goods; it cannot plane promises. If those boards arrive after luncheon, I am charging the delay to someone taller.

Cooking

The forager has eaten half my vegetables, and the fisherman swears this catch was twice as large before it reached my kitchen. Bring me whatever raw meat, fish, and gathered produce survived the journey, and Cooking will turn it into meals that provide useful temporary benefits and health regeneration. No tasting until it is finished—especially you, cousin.

Enchanting

Any blacksmith may shape metal; enchanting persuades it to remember power. With materials reclaimed by Disenchanting and bars supplied through Smelting, I prepare enchanted materials and scrolls that can add lasting attributes to equipment. Try not to confuse this with common ornamentation—the jewelcrafter does enough of that for both of us.

Fletching

I once watched a young ranger carry one arrow into the wild because he was certain one would be enough. Years later, I make arrows, bows, and wooden shields from the work of woodworkers, smiths, tanners, and tailors—and I carry spares. Wisdom is simply experience that survived long enough to pack properly.

Jewelcrafting

Do you hear that? Pick on stone—somewhere below us, a miner may finally be finding my gems. Jewelcrafting combines gems, metal wire, settings, chain links, and consumed molds; enchanted pieces also need the enchanter's refined metal. I have been waiting all morning, which is a very long time underground.

Leatherworking

The tanner sends canvas, the tailor sends padding, the blacksmith asks for straps, and adventurers want armor, bags, and mount gear before sunset. Leatherworking turns those materials into useful components and finished equipment, assuming no one changes the order again. Put your request on the pile—the smaller pile is merely the one that fell over.

Masonry

The stone cutter believes a square block is a finished achievement. I build with those blocks, joining patient stone into work that bears weight, weather, and generations—then he complains I have hidden his best edge. Pride in the stone is proper; pride before the wall stands is merely noise.

Poison Making

A poison is most useful when the target notices it after the rogue has gone. This Rogue-only profession extracts toxins and prepares weapon poisons, each recipe demanding its own knowledge and skill. If the bottle is labeled “probably,” let someone else open it.

Tailoring

Of course your tunic tore; you introduced it to three wolves and called that ordinary wear. Tailoring turns cloth into components, armor, and containers, supplies padding to leatherworkers, and relies on proper fittings for finer work. Stand still while I measure you, and stop bleeding on the good fabric.

Tinkering

I know the spring was here a moment ago—unless it is already inside the device, which would explain the humming. Tinkering brings clever mechanisms together from prepared metal, crafted fittings, and other specialized parts. If it clicks, that is progress; if it whistles, stand behind the dwarf.

Woodworking

My cousin at the carpentry bench thinks boards appear faster when he complains loudly enough. Woodworking refines the lumber gathered by Lumberjacking into the boards and components needed by Carpentry and Fletching. Good timber rewards patience; fortunately, patience runs in my side of the family.

Utility / salvage

Disenchanting

Yes, I am also the gnome waiting for gems; no, that does not mean I have time to inspect every glowing trinket you find. Disenchanting breaks eligible magical items into powders for Enchanting and may uncover rarer magical essences, though a failed attempt can destroy the item. If it crackles, place it on the left pile—the enchanter has already complained about the right one.

First Aid

Hold still. It is a bandage, not a resurrection, and it works better before you finish bleeding on my boots. First Aid helps adventurers tend wounds with the bandages supplied by Survival—assuming the wilderness folk rolled them straight this time. Next time, try ducking before the axe arrives.

Riding

The mount already knows where its feet belong; most of Riding is teaching you not to interfere. Learn the skill, choose suitable rigging, and treat your horse or pack animal as a partner rather than portable furniture. I trust every beast in this stable—some of the riders remain under review.

Survival

Beyond the walls, nobody brings you light, shelter, or a tidy stack of bandages. Survival lets you make bandages, torches, and campfires through your own abilities, with a little wood and the sense to prepare before nightfall. The medic will complain about my bandage rolls, but notice who keeps sending wounded travelers back alive.
