Disenchanting

Yes, I am also the gnome waiting for gems; no, that does not mean I have time to inspect every glowing trinket you find. Disenchanting breaks eligible magical items into powders for Enchanting and may uncover rarer magical essences, though a failed attempt can destroy the item. If it crackles, place it on the left pile—the enchanter has already complained about the right one.

Getting started

Find the gnome—or one of the other qualified people

  • Night Harbor: Disenchanter Kahni is in Spellbinders of the Spire.
  • Night Harbor: Disenchanter Qaridi is near the docks, on a balcony near Vauquelin and an enchanter.
  • Faelindral: Disenchanter Gwendyl is above the Inn, near Enchanter Wyrel and Vaelyndir the Jewelcrafter.

Acquire a cube

Disenchanting Cubes are sold by Enchanting Supplies vendors in Night Harbor and Faelindral. Place the cube in a main inventory bag slot so it can be opened and used.

Remove the magic—carefully

  1. Place an eligible item bearing the MAGIC tag into the Disenchanting Cube.
  2. Choose Combine to strip away its magical properties.
  3. A successful attempt produces magical powder and may rarely yield a magical essence.

Quality and eligibility

  • The powder's quality and tier depend on the salvaged item, with item level or attribute count used as the current explanation. See Enchanting for the recorded tier breakdowns.
  • An item without the MAGIC tag cannot be disenchanted. The Cinder Beetle Shield is a documented example after losing that tag.
  • The table below contains sample item yields and trivial requirements and should be revised as more level-range evidence is gathered.
