Speak to a master blacksmith in Night Harbor, who only appears at night (despawns at 6 AM in-game time).
You
Hail, a master blacksmith.
Good evening to you, <player>. I can tell by those shoulders that you've swung y our fair share of smithing hammers. Perhaps you'd like to help me with an experiment?
You say
You enter/say What experiment?
During the day, I've been studying the origins of magically reinforced metals, meeting with the local enchanters, and perusing the library in Sageside.
Well, perusing as much as I'm allowed to, seeing as I'm not enrolled there.
Based on what I've managed to learn, it seems that most enchantments can be strengthened if the caster imbues a portion of their own essence into the metal itself.
That got me thinking of those recently discovered ruins...
You say
You enter/say What recently discovered ruins?
Wormsfood? Wurmsbite? Something like that. Either way, I've heard there are some powerful spirits within those ruins!
Seeing as they must have been there for hundreds of years, I often wonder what I could do with the spiritual essence of such timeless foes.
If you find yourself within that tomb of... Wordsthane, I'd be grateful if you'd let me borrow a small portion of any spiritual essence you come across.

You actually found some! You've my gratitude, <player>. Now, let's see what we're able to accomplish with this lingering soul...
Oh, now that is a surprise! The copper has hardened considerably. This essence is truly potent, <player>. I feel like you could make some powerful equipment using this method.
Here, take the remaining essence. Why don't you give it a try yourself?
See if you can fashion a bar using the essence, some enchanted copper, and flux. Show me the results of your handicraft.
3

Smelt a spectral bar

At a smelter, combine one Enchanted Copper Bar, one Spectral Essence, and one Flux. Show the spectral bar to the blacksmith.

I'd call that a resounding success, wouldn't you, <player>?
Something like this is quite special, and I'd be remiss to let you fashion something out of it using crude leathers or cheap padding.
You should speak to some of the other master artisans in the city and see if they have any ideas for high-grade components that would complement this new alloy.
You'd do well to inquire about particularly sturdy leather for the straps, and some high-quality cloth for any interior padding.
Once you've found suitable components, see about fashioning a breastplate from this special alloy. Only the most protective of pieces should be used for something so rare, don't you agree?
Take care now, <player>, and may Sorophal's spark illuminate your craft.

You enter/say I'm looking for sturdy leather.
You're looking for particularly sturdy leather? Hmm... Well, of all Szuur's beasts, I'd say the crocodiles have the sturdiest hides in the area.
You say
You enter/say nasty brute?
Though, there's one especially nasty brute with a hide ten times as thick as the others!
Ol' Chompers, they call it. Last I heard, it wanders the beaches of the Shaded Dunes, taking a bite out of anything it sees. Though, I'd hate to work a hide like that without the proper treatment.
You say
You enter/say What proper treatment?
That's a question for the tanner. Chompers' hide is sure to make some quality leather, but I'd show it to them first before you try and trim it down to size.
...That is, assuming you actually manage to bring down the beast!

Chompers' hide! You actually managed to bring it down? I'm impressed, <player>!
Look at this hue! The thickness of the scales is unlike anything I've seen. You would need a very potent solution in order to treat a hide like this properly.
You say
You enter/say What potent solution?
Hmm, something of this size and quality would need to use alum. It's derived from alunite ore, so you would need to find an alchemist capable of breaking it down for you.
Or you could always do so yourself, if you've the skill. Some alum combined with resin would yield a powerful enough solution to treat something this exquisite.

By the grace of Sorophal, what an impressive piece of leather you've managed to get hold of!
A skilled leatherworker could use this to create components of very high quality. They'd be highly sought after by the smiths in the market, that's for certain!

Greetings, friend. Have you come to practice your weaves?
You say
You enter/say Yes
A coarse plant-based thread would clash terribly with this fine silk, so it would be ideal to find a material of similar origin for the stitching.
I have heard that the farmers in the Strand use lesser spider silks for many of their fabrics. Perhaps a suitable thread could be made from common silks found in that area. You will have to determine that for yourself, however.
At the very least, I would be sure to have confidence in your skills before attempting such a project. Butchering such fine fabric would be simply heartbreaking, after all!
You say
You enter/say I am looking for high quality cloth.
I have received a number of high-quality silks from adventurers in the past. If I recall, they said that they found them in a Tel Saman crypt, out in the Shaded Dunes.
What they brought me was clearly from the smaller arachnids, but I cannot help but wonder what the matriarch of such a brood is capable of weaving.
Typically, the largest of the spiders produce the finest and sturdiest threads. I would love to see an example one day.

Oh, what a wonderfully robust weave! One could certainly use such silk to create a most comfortable material, resistant to wear and stains.
To speak nothing of its breathability and moisture-wicking properties! These are highly sought-after traits for clothing hear in Szuur.
Even the blacksmiths would adore such silk for padding their heavy armor. Though, it may require something different to hold a proper weave.
