Sylvarya Starveil accepts the offered letter with a knowing smile and a gentle bow. Her wizened gaze does not settle on yours but instead drifts past your shoulder, as though addressing someone behind you. : Sylvarya Starveil says, "I greet you, whispered one, I am Sylvarya Starveil, the High Gatekeeper of the Wyrdguard,
I am delighted to be the first to welcome you into the Sentinel's Gaze.
Sylvarya Starveil takes your hand in hers and gently places a simple phial into your open palm, her fingers closing around both your hand and the phial.
You have been summoned here by our leader, Elydris, because of your promising connection with the spirits of nature. Are you prepared to take the first steps toward becoming a gatekeeper?
You say
You enter/say im prepared to take the first steps
As a gatekeeper of the Wyrdguard, your role will be to both support and transport your allies through the Wyrdgates.
You will find one such gateway here in Evershade Weald, at the base of the northernmost lift that leads toward the caverns inhabited by fae.
Your first task will be to help nourish and maintain this gateway. Pour the contents of the phial I gave you into the very center of the circular formation of toadstools that you find there.
Once you have poured an offering from the phial, you must then exhibit a moment of patience as you await... a response.
Game
2. take the lift down at the neighboring platform from where you speak to Sylvarya (Note: guard Galen is standing by the lift; this is not the newbie lift you start at. It is marked as the Pixie Lift on the Faelindral map), and stand in the center of the circle of toadstools
Game
Note: you can see the ring of mushrooms from the platform Sylvarya Starveil is on if you run around it and look at the ground down below if you have trouble finding it
2

Test the phial at the toadstools and water

Use the phial at the toadstool circle, then take a water sample with the empty phial held on your cursor.

COMMAND /pour toadstools (while holding the Simple Phial from Sylvarya) Note: you need to be right in the center, turn in circles and move to the center and keep trying Enter command /pour toadstools 1 × Simple Phial · Evershade Weald

COMMAND 3. /take water (while holding the Empty Phial) Enter command /take water 1 × Empty Phial · Evershade Weald
RECEIVE You receive Strange Reaction Phial. 1 × Strange Reaction Phial · Evershade Weald
Show dialogue (6 entries)
Game
You pull the stopper and pour out the contents of the phial. Liquid which appears to be simple spring water is swallowed up greedily by the surrounding toadstools, soil and fallen needles. Now all that remains is to await any sort of response... Nothing appears to change so far aside from the odd sensation of being tugged towards the center of this ring of toadstools. You continue to wait patiently...
Game
Your patience is at last rewarded as the pull you feel towards the center of the Wyrdgate grows stronger. A point of light forms at the center of the Wyrdgate; what appears to be the very beginnings of a portal!
Game
The point of light grows no larger than a coin, out of which begins to pour a slow deluge of murky water. This strange fountain must be the reaction that Sylvarya mentioned that you need to take a sample of and return to her.
Game
You use your now-empty phial to collect a sample of the eerie reaction and press the stopper back into the neck of the bottle.
Game
As soon as you've collected what you need, the small portal from which the water had cascaded closes and stems the flow. The remains of the fountain seep into the forest floor, leaving the Wyrdgate in it's natural, serene state,
Game
4. take the lift back up and return to Sylvarya Starveil.

Sylvarya Starveil holds the phial up to the light and swirls its murky contents. You perceive the faintest furrow of her brow before she returns her attention to something just over your shoulder,
I thank you for this, CynderR. We must always be vigilant in our efforts regarding the Wyrdgates, for though they are undoubtedly a great asset to our people, they could also prove to be a great vulnerability if left unchecked.
I cannot yet explain the results of your efforts to you, but you have at least taken the first step toward becoming a gatekeeper.
Only one who is capable of viewing the Wyrding could have seen this reaction take place, and thus I present to you this icon to symbolize your rank as a novice.
I would also have you sent on another task, should you choose to accept it.
Novice Icon of the Gatekeeper
UPDATE!! Sylwine Brightspirit is not in the Inn. She is in the Well of Order. As the quests states.
You say
You enter/say what task
Maintaining the Wyrdgates is our primary responsibility, but it is also our duty to protect our fellow Wyrdguard from any who would see them harm.
As gatekeepers, we are the ones who bring them into the fray, embolden them through our magics, mend their wounds, and call upon nature's own wrath to lash out against those who oppose us.
Sylvarya Starveil closes her fist, which briefly alights with a brilliant flame that seems to swirl with majestic faerie hues of red, blue, and violet. She snuffs out the demonstration shortly afterward.
Take the phial that you filled earlier to an ally of ours in the Preservers, Sylwine Brightspirit is a brilliant alchemist who currently heads the Well of Order, and she may have some insight as to what it now contains,

Sylwine Brightspirit hands you a small bag with various separated pockets, each for carrying different reagents.

The shop is running a little low on some of the more popular reagents. Normally, I have Preservers running around doing this for me, but you have some free time, right?
I need you to find me two royal jellies, two bat wings, and... maybe a couple of bone chips, just in case.
You can put them all in that reagent bag and secure it once you're done. I should have this phial sorted out by the time you return. Thanks in advance!

Sylwine Brightspirit looks to be in a dour mood when you arrive, but the sight of your full reagent bag brightens her spirits.
Oh, great, you're back! I thought you might have been that awful rogue who just dropped off a horrible-smelling concoction for me to sort through.
These are fine specimens... and all neatly organized as well! You have my thanks, and, I hope, some answers for your High Gatekeeper.
Sylwine Brightspirit offers you a rolled leafnote along with a small sealed pouch that emits a faint orange glow from within.
I put all my findings into that note, but I had to use most of the substance to get any clear results. Where did you say you found that stuff, anyway?
Oh never mind, it's not important. I also included a very important reagent as a measure of thanks for your assistance. I think Sylvarya will appreciate it.
Stop by again if you ever need some potions
the note reads:
High Gatekeeper,
The sample size delivered was quite small, but I was able to determine the source of thedisturbance.
Floral traces corroborate with similar samples that we've received from the Reekbog by our scouting parties.
The magical nature is also similar to the corrupting presence of the Spiral.
I hope that you haven't discovered this in the Weald? Please keep me advised.
Spirits preserve you.

Sylvarya speaks highly of your potential, young Gatekeeper. I am glad to have the chance to meet and introduce myself.
I am Elydris Stormbough, Commander of the Wyrdguard. I have the honor of being a Gatekeeper, much like yourself. Our ability to bring our allies to and from the fields of battle is an invaluable tactic.
It is a tactic that we must ingrain into younger Gatekeepers as soon as possible. Do you believe that you are ready to learn our ways?

Then I entrust the delivery of an important letter to you, aspirant. Return to Sylvarya and tell her that you are ready to see the paths.
You will be guided through the Wyrding itself and witness firsthand what Gatekeepers are capable of.
Once through the paths, you shall deliver the letter to a human woman named Almina. She shall provide you the means of returning to the Weald.

You're an aspirant of the Wyrdguard, yes? I'm Almina of the Circle of Scarce Rains. I welcome you to our grove here in Sungreet Strand.
Our two orders often exchange correspondence within these sacred places, as they are natural waypoints for those who traverse the penumbral paths. Was that your first time? You look a little queasy!
You can bring this letter back to your High Gatekeeper, and that scroll should teach you how to return along the same pathways you used to get here.
Of course, you can always remain here or visit Night Harbor, though the path is quite dangerous being this close to Tel Ekir... so I'd not advise it unless you're confident.
Almina hands you a letter and the Scroll Gate.
Gate to Evershade Weald and hand the letter to Sylvarya.
Welcome home, aspirant! Not many can navigate the paths so easily for their first time, though you seem to have had no such trouble.
In time, you will learn to bring yourself and others through many such gateways. For now, you will only be able to use the ones that you designate for your own soul.
I see you also made contact with the Circle of Scarce Rains. Their current leader was once a resident of Evershade Weald. She would have made a promising Gatekeeper.
While our two groups are venturing very different paths, it always helps to have allies who share a love for the balance and the natural order.
Now then, the commander will be eager to hear of your return. Go to her and show this token as proof that I have received Almina's response.
Sylvarya hands you Druidic Token.

How was your first foray through the paths, young one? It will not be long before you are able to carry entire scouting parties through the Wyrding.
That is for a future day, however. For now, we have more pressing matters here at home that require your direct attention.
Our archers are currently out countering the orc spies, while our fighters fend off the warriors that descend from the cliffsides.
It shall be your duty to assist our forces by countering the fell magics they utilize through shamanistic rituals.
Take this satchel and fill it with the broken idols of Fellstone shamans. They attempt to aid their forces from the back lines, but that is where our moonfire can still strike.
I would advise you to seek out fellow Wyrdguard or other adventurers in your efforts. Return to me once you have sufficiently quelled the orcs' supporting ranks.
And do not hesitate to utilize your newfound ability to traverse the Wyrding, should the need arise.

You have performed admirably, young gatekeeper. A force is nothing without proper support, and you have isolated the orcs from theirs.
These idols reek with the stain of the Spirals, even when broken. Bring them to Sylvarya so that she may continue her investigations.
Thank you again, [name]. We shall call upon you again soon, I am sure.
She hands you the satchel. Take it to Sylvarya.
The instruments of orc rituals carry with them a corruption that lingers, even after their destruction.
I will do what I can to cleanse these idols and see if they align with the other elements we have uncovered so far, but you have done well for the Faelewyn today.
Please accept these gloves as a measure of thanks, [name]. One cannot be too careful in the handling of such dangerous idols.
You may continue to aid those of the Weald for now. I will have one final task for you once my investigations have concluded.

She hands you Lodestone.
You say
You enter/say I am ready to assist.
You have been aiding me from the start, if you were not already aware.
The reaction from the Wyrdgate due to the phial you poured, the study of its contents by Sylwine, as well as the message received from Almina of the Circle of Scarce Rains.
All were related to a theory of mine; and, upon studying the orcish idols that you last brought me, I have finally reached a conclusion.
You say
You enter/say What conclusion?
I can say with confidence that there is a second Wyrdgate located within the Weald. One that is under the control of our enemies.
This may be how a portion of their forces have entered the Weald undetected, and as Gatekeepers, it falls on us to close it.
Will you use your gifts to aid us in this endeavor, aspirant?
You say
You enter/say I will use my gifts.
If the orc forces have somehow opened a second gate, it means they have enlisted aid from someone capable of connecting to the Wyrding... a feat their kind is incapable of.
First we must find the location of this gate, after which we must deal with its creator.
I recommend camouflaging yourself with nature's embrace and scouring the areas of Evershade upon which the orcs have made their presence known. Avoid the undead if you choose to do this, as their unnatural gaze can pierce our shrouds.
Search for any signs of a circular formation. It need not be a circle of toadstools such as our own gate. Theirs could be made of flowers, stones, or any other natural phenomenon.
Once located, you are to place the lodestone within the center of the circle to attune it to its last used destination.
Return the attuned lodestone to me once you have done this, and may the shades of the Weald protect you, [name].

Show dialogue (15 entries)
What do you think? Yes. Yes, I believe so as well.
It is as we feared.
Not only is there a second, active Wyrdgate, but this one has made two distinct connections between the mires of the Reekbog and the shadows of the Deep.
It would be unwise to draw a conclusion from that alone, but the fact remains that we must sever this connection if our forces are to have any hope of reclaiming the cliffs.
I entrust this task to you, aspirant, as with your abilities, you should have no trouble temporarily sealing the gateway. You must, however, employ the proper method.
You say
You enter/say What is the proper method?
Any individual could simply tear away the moss, but this would only provide a short respite. The one who created the gate could return to renew it in short order.
What we require is a solution capable of removing the moss completely from the stone and preventing its regrowth. I can create such a solution for you, but I need you to bring me the venom sac of both a wasp and a Mezzatrian widow spider.
You need to kill wasps and spiders for Wasp Venom Sac and Widow Venom Sac. Hand these to Sylvarya. NOTE: The venom sacs are often found on Cooking Supplies or shady merchants.
Any spider named Mezzatrian can drop it. They can be found on the platform across the broken bridge. (across the fallen log, up the ramp, behind the waterfall, follow bridges)
She hands you Searing Solution. NOTE: If you fail this part of the quest, simply hand Sylvarya more venom sacs for another solution.
Here is the solution you require. Pour this upon the moss to destroy it, but be cautious. Such interference with the gateway is sure to spare the ire of the one who created it.
That is the plan, of course. Once you have drawn out the interloper, you must subdue them to prevent them from ever conjuring another Wyrdgate.
Lastly, and most importantly, you must place the attuned lodestone once more into the center of the destroyed gateway to seal off the Wyrding completely.
Return to me with the used lodestone, as well as any evidence of your victory against the orcs' hired hand. Should you require more of the solution, you will have to fetch me another wasp and widow venom sac.
