Ah, you seek to aid the cause? I welcome you, young one.
Captain Relgen Greenblade pauses to regard you with a keen eye, offering a nod as he returns the letter back to you.
You have the scent of the wild on you. Take no offense, for we of the Ardent Keepers wish to preserve the natural order between the beasts of the Weald and Faelindral.
Take this request to Aerin Mossfang in the Quiet Den. She oversees the training of those like yourself who have a connection to bestial sprits.

Aerin Mossfang snatches the pamphlet from your hand, then leans in close to you without regard for personal boundaries. She sniffs the air around you before leaning back with a satisfied nod.
I'm not one for paperwork, but I can tell you just came from Relgen. You have his scent on you. You've also been marked by beast spirits, which makes you more pleasant company than most.
Aerin Mossfang proceeds to fish out a small kit and tosses it into your hands
You must be here to learn how to bond with an animal, correct? Well, your timing is impeccable. We've recently brought in some wounded animals that could use a little attention.
So, are you ready to help?
You say
You enter/say Yes I am ready to help.
Aerin Mossfang nods in acknowledgement as she gestures toward the various animal kennels.
We don't just treat animals of the Weald here. All beasts are a part of the natural order, and these ones were victims of poachers or other unnatural threats.
Aerin Mossfang practically spits the word poachers as Sire snarls in recognition.
We've treated their physical injuries with restorative magic, but they still need salves and remedies to help regain their former strength.
Approach an animal of your choice and offer it your treatment kit, Take a good look first, then return the used kit to me when you're done.

Aerin Mossfang greets you with a feral-looking grin as you return the used treatment kit, then produces a satchel for you and offers it with an outstretched hand.
Did I mention that was the first step in your bonding? I didn't? Well, now you know. You had to make the choice without an outside influence. So, which of these called out to you?
Aerin Mossfang glances over to the kennels.
The jackal is an elusive and resourceful beast, with a spirit that some say is more ancient than the founding of Calafrey.
Their determination to survive makes them unpredictable companions, but they're as loyal as any canine and have the bite to match.
It would seem that the one you treated may already be calling to your spirit. Good. Take this scroll and learn to call out to your new companion. Then, tell me when you're ready to continue your bond.
Good. You've sparked an animal's interest, and now you must earn its trust by hunting alongside it, as one would with any true companion.
You'll need to keep your companion well fed if you want them to perform their best. I've given you some simple animal feed for now, but you'll have to show me that you can provide what's needed to support your partner.
Wolves or bats will be your primary meat sources here in the Weald, so choose whichever suits your palette. Fill the hunt satchel with six portions of either meat, then seal it and return it to me.
Don't worry, little Keeper. This hunting is sanctioned, so long as it pertains to the ritual. Return to me with your filled and combined satchel and we'll complete the bond.

Aerin Mossfang licks her lips in an almost predatory manner as you return from your hunt.
Aerin Mossfang takes your satchel and begins emptying the contents into a nearby cooking pot, boiling it into a rich stew.
This is what it means to hunt as one! That which were prey now serve to fuel the predator. The predator trods the land and protects if from threats unnatural.
The beastmaster is a representation of this cycle and how both man and beast are drawn to the protection of the realm.
Aerin Mossfang leans over the cook pot and inhales the scent of the stew bubbling thickly atop the fire. She hands you a spoon.
Go on, have a taste. Return the spoon to me when you're finished.

Good! It seems that you and your new companion have had a chance to put these claws to the test.
Though I must ask you, novice... have you been hunting any of the beasts within the Weald on your travels? A simple yes or no will suffice.
Aerin Mossfang crosses her arms and regards you with a cool stare. The dire wolf at her side offers a low, warning growl.
You say
You enter/say YES
Aerin Mossfang nods, her arms uncrossing as she lets out a touch of a sigh.
What, did you think I'd be disappointed? Many of us have been forced to put down more beasts of late, as their aggression grows from some sort of... sickness.
You say
You enter/say What sickness?
Aerin Mossfang lets out a low growl, revealing a glimpse of her pointed canines.
Yes. Perhaps you've seen evidence of it during your hunts on the forest floor.
Man of the local wolf tribes have been afficted. We've lost two packs entirely to the strange madness, as they threw themselves at some of our patrols.
The black wolves in particular have been struggling the most, with the brown and gray packs retreating to their dens within Keepers Bight.
I hate to ask this of you, <yourname>, but we need someone to help carve out this diseased rot before it spreads any further.
You say
You enter/say What diseased rot?
Aerin Mossfang nods somberly, her gaze turning to Sire, who offers a low whine. She comforts the wolf with a gentle scratch behind his ear.
Take this twine. Cull the rabid members of the black wolf pack and wrap their hides with this.
Bring me four of their hides, wrapped into a bundle. Then we shall see if we can discover the source of this affliction and end it once and for all.

These hides have the scent of orcs upon them! Are they the ones afflicting the packs with their rotten magic?
Aerin Mossfang growls as you hear the distinct grinding of her sharpened teeth. Sire begins to growl alongside her.
These fallen packmates shall not have been culled in vain. I want you to take these diseased pelts to someone who has also heard the cry of the wolves.

Eraeldor Lowmist slowly opens his eyes as you approach and deposit the diseased bundle at his feet, meeting your gaze. He offers a genuine but sorrowful smile.
Aerin was right to send you to me, young master. Her agitated song could be heard across Faelindral, as can the somber chorus of the wolf spirits.
Allow me to cleanse these skins so that their spirits may rest peacefully, knowing their sickness shall spread no further.
Eraeldor Lowmist lowers himself to the bundle of pelts and begins to sing a soft melody. Curative magic washes across the pelts, and the scent of their lingering sickness dissipates.
Eraeldor Lowmist slowly returns to his feet while folding his hands politely in front of himself.
I can cleanse you as well, if you feel you are afflicted. Else, I believe that the Lady Aerin had wished you to make a demand of me.

You may inform the packmistress that her concerns are well-founded. This malady is indeed brought on by the orc tribes and their twisted use of magic.
To what end, I cannot say. They may merely wish to sow confusion for a greater scheme, with the fauna being a tragic casualty.
Though, if you wish to prove yourself to the Lady Aerin and appease a portion of her rage, I could provide you with some direction.
Target Eraeldor Lowmist and /say direction
The name of the one responsible for the wolves' ailment has been whispered into my ear by the spirits of vengeance... Vorkuul Blighteye.
There is no doubt that he is close to the wolves and the source of his crimes. Aerin would reward you for this fiend's head, alongside the cleansed pelts of the fallen.
The spirits, too, would be indebted to you. They are being twisted by this orc's malice and by those who follow his teachings. Hunt those who befoul our ways of preservation, and you may draw out their master.

Aerin Mossfang cackled as you show her the head. Her companion, Sire, bellows a victory howl at her side.
Eraeldor heard the name of this orc, you say? If only my own ears were as good as his, Sire and I would've hunted down this root sucker ourselves.
Still, you were given the name of elusive prey and hunted down successfully, while also making sure the pelts have been cleansed of their rot. That alone is worthy of my respect. Here.
Aerin Mossfang removes a hide shawl from her shoulders and slings it over yours.
The spirits of fallen pack members have blessed that shawl. I'd say you earned it for delivering the justice they deserve.
You deserve an improvement to those claws as well, but I must conceive a suitable hunt first. Keep them close, and in the future, I will have further instructions for you.

The next stage of your training will involve making an improvement to your novice claws
You say
You enter/say what improvement?
Aerin Mossfang offers you a feral grin.
Yes, you'll need more than simple novice claws if you're to continue your hunts beyond Faelindral.
you've already proven your worth by diminishing the orcish blight, but there's one last test you'll need to perform to get materials you need
More specifically, I'll have you face off against a much larger Calafreyan beast.
You say
You enter/say what is a Calafreyan beast?
Have you journeyed out to Keepers Bight yet? There are reports of black bears in the region that have been straying too close to caravan roads and preying on innocent travelers
Black bears are typically not an aggressive species, so unfortunately any who have turned hostile must be brought low. You're to set out and test yourself against their strength
Travel the roads and find any bears that have turned violent. Put them down and return to me with three of their bloodied claws, along with any sign of what could have caused their hostility...should you come across it."
Aerin Mossfang lets out a feral growl, gripping the arrow so hard that she ends up snapping it like a twig.
Humans. Why am I not surprised? Their greed has driven the beasts to madness, and the bears are not the first to suffer from human encroachment upon our lands
We'll deal with them soon enough. At the very least you ended the creature's agony, and soon their claws will mete out justice through decisive battle.
Here, take the bear claws along with this pattern. There are, however, other components you must gather to craft yourself a weapon of vengeance
You say
You enter/say what other components?
Find a leatherworking station or use a kit, whichever is your preference. Affix the claws onto a bear pelt of at least low quality, then stich it together with two rough threads and two sets of cloth padding
If you have any experience in tailoring or leatherworking, you may already be familiar with the components. if not, then you needn't worry. Just follow the instructions on the pattern
The combination is simple and you aren't required to make something pretty. Simply...functional. You can buy the items from others if you lack the skill or patience to make them yourself.
Return the fashioned claws and the pattern to me for the final step in their creation

If my duties didn't root me within the Den, I'd be more than willing to join you on this next hunt. though, my instincts tell me that the target you seek is not an expert poacher.
The human poachers in Keepers Bight are typically cunning, avoiding needless aggravation of the local wildlife. they understand they're one mistake away from being tracked down themselves.
